Chocolate Heaven at Cadbury World
Cadbury World is one of the best places in The Midlands to visit for under 15 GBP. It's a great day out, with plenty to do, see and taste! It is a pleasure to the senses and educational for the mind - especially the young ones!
It is always best to book tickets before your visit online. This is what Cadbury World prefers, gets you a better price and saves disappointment if you turn up and there are no more admissions available for the day. We paid our 13.45 GBP entrance fee online, and just turned up with the printed receipt sent to my email address. Easy-peasy. It's worth looking out for seasonal offers online before making the booking too.
The visit was like a self-guided tour, with various videos and pictures along the way, as well as a fun ride (think Disney's "It's a Small World" chocolate style!) and the pièce de résistance - the chocolate factory! Here we got to see how the chocolate is actually made, the production process and the hand-finished touches which in my opinion is what makes Cadbury's chocolate the tastiest in the world.
The whole visit is rather like an interactive museum, where we actually got to learn something about the history of chocolate, it's origin and how it is grown and produced. I absolutely adored the free samples along the way and had a great time learning how to write with chocolate too!
The shop at the end is stocked full of - you guessed it - Cadbury's chocolate in all it's shapes, sizes and flavours as well as gimmicky objects likes cups, aprons, fridge magnets, pens and pencils. The shop is where you end up at the end of the tour and I found this a little bit too commercial for my liking. Nevertheless you cannot avoid visiting the shop if you go with small children (or a cute German tourist in my case!)
Cadbury World is a great day out for the whole family and people of any age. Although it is located in the large city of Birmingham, I do not recommend driving through the city centre. It is busy at all times of the day and is likely to cause you a delay to your booked visit. I recommend following the directions given on the Cadbury World website. Oh and by the way - avoid Cadbury World if you are attempting to diet, the chocolate cannot be resisted by any means! [more]
I know it has been said before by other travellers, but this is THE place to go if you are a chocoholic. Given the revival of the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" movie, my kids were more excited than ever to visit the place. Expecting to see Willie Wonka at every turn, they stuffed themselves full of free samples and learnt quite a bit along the way, such as the history of chocolate. Entertaining, fun and educational and a choccy lovers dream. The adults in the party liked the factory experience best, seeing how things are actually done, but for the kids the sheer novelty made it a magical experience. Admission is reasonable and the factory is well signed once you get to the area.
Would definitely go again! [more]
Now I do know Birmingham has a bit of a reputation, however there are some things to do and see apart from shopping and going out at night. Cadbury's world is one such place and the place to go for any chocoholic. You will learn more about the history of Cadbury's chocolate, but more importantly you will actually see how the chocolate is made. There will be rides and most importantly demonstrations and even more importantly you will get to sample some of the finest Cadbury chocolates. And of course at the end of this tour there is a huge shop. All in all a great tour especially if you are traveling with children.
You will have to reserve the tickets in advance through the Cadbury world website. Price of admission is Ł13 for an adult and Ł9.95 for a child. [more]
