Liege Cathedral is a wonderful gothic building in the center of Liege. There are the remains of the patron saint of the city - Saint Lambert. Once there was an older (and much bigger and probably more beautiful) cathedral dedicated to the same St. Lambert and center of the Archbishophoric of Liege which existed as a separate country for several centuries before the French Revolution, but then the French troops destroyed it. Now on its place there is a large square (Lambertis Square).
The nowadays cathedral is also very big and impressive and I can only imagine what the first cathedral has been if this was only the second biggest church in the city. [more]
