Mayer van den Bergh Museum
My wife bought us a combined ticket for Rubens House and Mayer van den Bergh without either of us having the faintest idea who Van den Bergh was. It turned out Van den Bergh was a huge collector of medieval and Renaissance artworks and objects. We bought the museum guide from the book shop which gives a lot of interesting information about each piece. Well worth seeing is the Elder, a painting by Pieter Bruegel, which Van den Bergh bought at an auction where no one else showed any interest in the painting. We walked around by ourselves but you can also arrange a guided tour via the tourist office. The museum is open 10-5 from Tuesday-Sunday. [more] |
