Venice Beach Boardwalk
The Boardwalk at Venice Beach is dirty, crowded, and can be dangerous after dark, but it is still one of the most popular hangouts in L.A. Here you can find everything from vegetarian-only restaurants to outdoor gyms to high class boutiques to bars that host turtle races on weekends. There are stands selling cheap clothes, sunglasses, and jewelry, as well as street vendors selling ice cream, slushees, and burritos. Fortune-tellers and buskers abound. Muscle Beach is a small section of the beach which is roped off and contains a variety of body-building equipment and usually several massive, exhibitionist body-builders at any time of day. You can gawk at these WWF-wannabees or simply watch the rollerbladers, joggers, skateboarders, and cyclists go by. Or better yet, join them! Venice Beach is a great place to watch people, and it's got something for every budget. It's a great place to spend a lazy sunny afternoon. [more] |
