Palau Nacional

Located on Montjuïc, this building was originally built for the 1929 International Exhibition. It currently houses the National Art Museum of Catalunya, which is a wonderful museum to visit. Inside you will find Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern art pieces, providing a wide overview of Catalán art. I was unfortunate enough to not have enough time to go through the entire museum, but the Romanesque section we visited was fantastic. I can hardly wait to return and see the other wonderful pieces I missed.

The building is beautiful and so are the views from outside. From just in front of the museum you have a magnificent view of the city of Barcelona. Follow the steps downward in front of the museum and you will find the Font Màgica located approximately halfway between the Palau Nacional and the Plaça Espanyol. They have terrific light shows on summer evenings that are coordinated to music. It is certainly worth staying around until evening to see it. [more ]

The fountain in front of Palau Nacional

 stars
In front of Palau National in Barcelona, in the middle of the hill between some palaces there is a large fountain. 4 times a week (but I don’t know which days, Thursday for sure) around 23.00 there is a free musical show at the fountain. It is “dancing” by constantly changing its colours and forms on some pieces of classical music for around 40 minutes. The view is really breathtaking . usually there is a big crowd of people watching it, so you’d better arrive there a little bit earlier. I will never forget the Dancing fountain. [more ]

Palau Nacional

Palau Nacional and its surrounding complex of palaces is one of the most marvelous places in Barcelona. The Palace is standing on a hill and when you start climbing from Placa d’Espanya among the other palaces it looks very majestic. There are several terraces, each of them offering a different view to the other palaces and the city. And between two palaces is a small street that takes you to Poble Espanol –A typical Spanish village-museum, wehre you can see a lot about the life in Spain in the middle ages. [more ]
