Peterskirche

St. Peter’s is the oldest church in Munich (built around 1200) and has recently undergone a number of renovations. The interior is still dominated by the high altar dedicated to St. Peter and is truly magnificent. But, the highlight for me (and what I really wanted to see) was in the side altar where the relics of Saint Munditia are on display. They consist of her gilt-covered skeleton, encrusted with jewels and housed in a glass case. A magnificent, if somewhat bizarre, attraction. You can also take the 300 steps up the tower for the best views in all of Munich where on a clear day the Alps are plainly visible. [more ]
