The St. Mang Basilica stars
The St. Mang Basilica of Fuessen is, of course, dedicated to Saint Mang, who was a resident of Fuessen. The basilica itself is located just down the hill from the castle of Fuessen, the beautiful Hohes Schloss of Fuessen. The church dates back to around 850 and was the burial place of St. Mang. However, most of the saints bones disappeared around 1100, so that today there is just one bone left of him which is located behind the alter. You can visit the original burial place of St. Mang as well, which is in the crypt. Another sight to see in the church is the oldest fresco painting in all of Germany, which is also located in the crypt (although it’s not very big). [more]
