Glasgow's Fancy Park
There are three major parks in Glasgow: Kelvingrove (which is always over-flowing with students), Glasgow Green (which is generally quite unpleasant but is used to hold big events) and the Botanics. Of the three the Botanics is by far the most upper class, with beautiful Victorian domed greenhouses and lovely landscaped lawns. It radiates in good weather, and the greenhouses are a great place to escape to in bad weather. There's a surprisingly impressive range of genuinelyinteresting plants such as flesh eating plants and orchids that could intrigue even those of us that are usually left cold by such things. It's free and convenientl located at the top of Byres Road near the University. Of course there is a downside, namely the fact that it is also the prefferred hang out of yuppie mothers and nurseries, and is always teeming with literally hundreds of babies. Other than this, the Botanic Gardens are a great way to spend an afternoon. [more] |
