The house of Rembrandt
The house of Rembrandt is one of the famous attractions in Amsterdam. It is a great old house in the Eastern part of the city center in the typical Dutch style and contains a wonderful museum of Rembrandt’s life and work. But if you expect many paintings you will not find them here – they are all in the bigger museums around the country like Rijksmuseum. The art-pieces in the house are mostly his drawings (which are actually pretty amazing). The rest of the house is an exact copy of how the house looked 400 years ago with all the walls, furniture, carpets etc. Something that made me a great impression was the very short bed completely closed like a box. I could never sleep in a place like that and I wonder how Rembrandt managed to do that. [more] |

Rembrandt Memorial House
In Amsterdam I tried to take advantage of all the opportunities to visit culture and art-related places. Of course, the Rijsk Museum was on top of my list, but the Rembrandt Memorial House also seemed very interesting. I loved the place and was happy to be able to admire such an important place, a place that inspired the great artist, a place where so many works of art were created. The visit was nice and the staff had managed to create a lovely atmosphere, that made me eager to learn more about the personal life of Rembrandt. I would really recommend a visit, especially since it's not so expensive. I got a pretty big discount, thanks to my student identity card. [more] |
