Witnessing Rare Cultural Spectacles at Ogera Hill
Ogera Hill is a conspicuous geographical feature in Uganda’s Ogalayi area which lies in a government protected nature reserve. Visitors to the hill are treated to ritualistic cultural experiences and religious spectacles because the hill and the surrounding forests are considered to be sacred by the local communities. There are some caves at the foot of the hill which serve as religious shrines for the local communities. I could not get close enough to the hill because the locals demanded us to remove our shoes before approaching the foot of the hill or else we would invite curses from their ancestors. Nonetheless, the hill is beautiful even from a distance and is surrounded by giant mahogany trees and other indigenous vegetation and bushes which also serve as habitat for monkeys and baboons.
