Having been lucky enough to get up close and personal with wild dolphins in Australia, it didn’t occur to me that I’d have the chance again in Europe. When visiting a friend in Alvor, I discovered that Sealife operate dolphin watching tours in the area and so I quickly booked myself a seat on the next boat! The boat makes its way slowly down the river estuary at Alvor and out into the open ocean, where it picks up speed and begins the search for dolphins and other marine life. After about an hour, we spotted a pod of dolphins gracefully swimming and jumping out of the ocean. It was breath taking! They seemed to be following the boat and stayed with us for a while before carrying on their journey. We also saw a variety of fish and species of birds and I was amazed to hear that it is also possible to encounter Killer Whales off the Algarve coast. I want to go again now! [more] |
