Where to go in Jakarta: Pasar Mayestik
Pasar Mayestik is not just well known for the Jakartans but also for other people living in West Java and other provinces and also amongst the international tourists. Many people would say the market has complete collections of just about anything. Mostly Jakartan ladies would go to Pasar Mayestik for either material for clothing (fabrics), cooking molds and other kitcheners, plenty sorts of things even luggage(s) and such OR for finding Rujak Bebeg! Ha-ha, yes, even though Rujak Bebeg (certain Indonesian fruit salad) is originally from Surabaya, East Java, however, there is a rujak bebeg stall somewhere at Pasar Mayestik that our Indonesian relatives often took us there (my husband found it pretty interesting but in so-so way). Many of the vendors inside Mayestik are not just Jakarta origin but also from Bandung, Tasikmalaya, and Bogor which the three of them are cities in West Java (not too-too far from Jakarta itself); inside Pasar Mayestik, you will not just find Indonesian but also many of the vendors are Indian or Pakistan descendants, also plenty of them are Chinese descendants as well and if you speak Cantonese, it would do you good for bargaining ;) [more] |
