Retro chic
People in Saint-Petersburg seem to be kind of tired of trendy and fancy cuisines and restaurants. Sushi bars and fusion restaurants became something ordinary like McDonald's and it looks like nostalgic soviet cuisine is in this year. Recently we've been to Leningrad restaurant, which promised to serve all the food that was a must at all the party tables in Soviet times. The interior was surprisingly modern and too chic for this theme: for example marble tables in the toilets could never be found in former Leningrad restaurants. On the menu there were some typical dishes from the past, like "Herring in a fur coat", borsch, solianka, pelmeni, blini and mushroom julienne, but not without a variety of last years hits, like fettuccine or miso soup.
