The Bar on the Roof of the World
Well, not quite, but from the top floor of the Old Course Hotel, with uninterrupted views over the West Sands, the sea, and the distant rooftops of the town itself, the Road Hole Bar leaves little to be desired in the way of atmosphere. Tables are grouped to facilitate conversation and reduce the noise level in the room, and although it's actually quite a large venue, it feels very intimate.
The views are outstanding, particularly at sunset or in the long hours of a Scottish summer evening. The drink selection is excellent, including nearly 200 different whiskeys, one from every distillery in Scotland. The drinks are overpriced, but what you are really paying for is the atmosphere and the excellent service of knowledgeable staff. It's well worth the price. [more ]
