Island Grill
KFC, McDonalds and Burger King are world renowned fast food franchises, even in Jamaica, however Jamaica have their unique brands, one of which is Island Grill. An Island Grill restaurant can be found in most major towns in the country, they have a very appealing menu which is a wonderful reflection of the local food. Most things are grilled, so usually there is no greasy meat to contend with. Prices are very reasonable you can get a complete meal for approximately US$5. My favourite meal is the number 7, a drink and chicken sandwich with fries and I swear they have the tastiest fries. The menu includes soups, steamed fish, jerk or barbeque chicken, pumpkin rice or callaloo rice (callaloo is a green leafy vegetable so it is like a vegetable rice). You are also able to get fish sandwiches, cold slaws and complete meals of curried chicken and rice and peas with a tossed salad. You can try eating a festival which is a favourite Jamaican staple usually had with Fish. Festival is like a bread or fried dumpling, it’s a mixture of flour and cornmeal with a little sugar for the slightly sweet taste. Like most fast-food restaurants they serve sodas with their meals, but you can opt for a natural fruit punch, orange juice or cherry juice.
