Meat Pies for a Bit of Country Cooking!
My best guy friend thinks fruit pies are girly, and prefers the meat pies that the Bag of Beans coffee place bakes fresh daily then freezes in cold storage. Recently on a trip back from Tagaytay City, he brought home a combination of frozen chicken and beef gravy pies. Seriously, these were really good! When you pop them in the oven, the outside crust is crunchy and flakey (a buttery pie crust definitely) and the inside is creamy and rich with a lot of filling. We fight though about which one tastes better. He's a fan of the beef pies while I'm raving about the chicken ones!!! [more] |

Loving Cinnamon Apple Pie
Bag of Beans is a great place to have a quiet coffee with family or friends with a lot of good homemade baked goodies. Usually people stop by the highway and actually park their cars on the road in front of the small cafe though to buy take-away back to Manila. I'm guilty of bringing home fresh breads and baked goodies without getting down from the vehicle. I guess the owners realize that the takeaway crowd is quite big too so they have ready-to-carry home stuff right in their freezers. Their apple pie is a frequent bestseller, in my home too! Whenever I say I'm heading over to Tagaytay, the kids scream, "bring back the apple pie!" It's THAT good:) [more] |

Wild about Civet Coffee at Bag of Beans!
Bag of Bean's has a house specialty in its locally harvested coffee that even Oprah Winfrey has raved about on her U.S. Show. Called Alamid Coffee, it has a slightly chocolately flavor is very unique among coffees all over the world. Actually it's also called Philippine Civet Coffee from a wild cat like animal called civet that lives in the Philippine mountains. This creature loves eating the best coffee cherries and relentlessly eats them during coffee season. Forest locals gather what they leave behind and combines it with Arabica, Liberica and Exelsa beans. The best part is you help save a wildlife creature and give local people fair income! [more] |
