Porto Maritimo di Bari, How to Get There?
Going to Greece for a summer vacation? Taking a ship from Bari to Greece starts from this port (aside from the other in Brindisi) when one is in Italy and this includes people from all over Europe. This port is only around a kilometer and a half away from the train station (Bari Centrale). If you happen to be going in this port for a trip and have not much luggage to carry, it is best to walk passing by and exploring the old city of Bari (citta Vechia/Bari Vecchia) and have a taste of the Medieval Italy. The port is only few meters beside this old city. However, if you have much luggage and don't likr to walk, there is always the bus (Number 18) for each forty-minute interval going to the port. The fare is only a euro. There is a bus stop in front of the train station and the tickets are available at news stands (Edicola) or the "Tabacchi" shops. There are times however when we are a bit late for our scheduled trip and we must need to hurry. Taking a taxi is part of this situation. We have found out however that there can be a bit of trick for this. While the taxis are in front of the train station, you can proceed at the back of the station. There are fixers that you can deal with offering you a lift to the port for a certain fee. They are not official taxi drivers but can be trusted as well. When they see people with luggage, they offer a lift and this is where your bargaining power comes in. If they offer you a lift for 15 euros you can ask for 10 euros and if they offer for 10, lower it to seven. Just be wise and enjoy your trip! [more] |
