A Journey in Plataci
Tired and stressed out with city life and daily activities? Plataci is a place for escape then. Plataci (read as pla-tat-chi) is known for its lovely nature. The town is locate 1000 meters above sea level and it is surrounded by a thick plantation of tress. The town is one of the doors to the National Park of Pollino, the most extended park in Italy There are no hotels around but the municipal hall may rent out apartments to those who need it for a reasonable price . Moreover, Plataci is a town which is only 20-minute drive away from the beautiful beaches of Villapiana, a nearby town making ot possible to stay in the sea in the morning (of course during summer) when the heat is still bearable. Since here in Calabria, the heat can make people crazy at times, Plataci has become their place of refuge, especially under the shadow of the tress and the cool breeze that they give Even though Plataci is a small town with a correspondingly small population, restaurants are present in the area and more often than not, what are served are the delicious home-mades like pastas and roasted goat ribs with potatoes together with other delicacies preserved in olive oil. All are delicious, I happen to taste all them twice or thrice when we visited a relative in the town. To go to this place it is very important to have one’s own car. It is the only way to explore the countryside. But for those who plan to trek or hike, this is place would be a paradise for you, I am sure. [more] |
