Doubletree International Plaza Hotel - the rooms

 stars
The Doubletree International Plaza Hotel is one of the best hotels I have stayed at in Canada. The room I stayed in on New Year’s Eve was spotless, and the beds were extremely comfortable, you could just sink into them! In the bathroom there was a whole array of Neutrogena facial and bath products, and we had tons of drawer and cabinet space. This hotel is conveniently located close to the airport, International Convention Centre and Toronto Congress Centre, thus it is ideal for business travellers. We got some deliciously warm cookies upon arrival! And we got an amazing price for New Year’s Eve, because we were attending the hotel party. Even without the party rate the price would have been well worth it! It really is like a plaza, the place is huge and exploring it is an event in itself. [more ]

Doubletree International Plaza Hotel - swimming pool

 stars
The swimming pool at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel was awesome! There were two waterslides, one bigger than the other. After much splashing and sliding, I sunk into the hot tub which was well-heated and had strong jets. There were plenty of towels for guests and many deck chairs and the change rooms were clean. The only problem I encountered was the very cold showers in the change room. I went back to my hotel room to shower instead. There was always a lifeguard watching the place, and the huge windows looking out provided great scenery and natural light during the day. I enjoyed the pool so much that I came back the next morning – yes, after the New Year’s party! [more ]

Partying on NYE at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel

 stars
The NYE party, “Dream Glamour and Glitz” at the hotel was overall a disappointment. What a shame since the hotel was so nice. My hotel stay made the experience worth it, but the party itself left much to be desired. Let’s start with the dinner – the salad looked like the salad mix you can buy at grocery stores, the chicken and potato entrée was OK but not spectacular, and the desserts were French pastries served on a small plate to be shared with the entire table! My sister asked for a vegetarian meal – they substituted chicken for rice! She was not impressed. Later on that night the music was way too loud, and the “3 rooms with 3 sounds” advertised actually ended up being two rooms with very similar sounds. I normally love to dance but we opted to go up to the hotel room for good conversation after the midnight balloon drop and countdown. The entrance to the hotel rooms were well-guarded by security, which was good. [more ]
