An Afternoon in the Cordillera Coffeehouse
With its reputation, you’d think the University of the Philippines (UP) won’t have a coffee house inside its grounds, right? Well, think again. As it blends well with its sophisticated yet homey environment, Cordillera Coffeehouse provides just the right atmosphere within the esteemed campus.
The café is located in the Vargas Museum, which is situated in Roxas Avenue, UP Diliman, Quezon City. Just get a cab or take the so-called ikot jeep to get inside the grounds. Tell the driver that you’re going to the Vargas Museum, and definitely the driver will know where to go next.
Cordillera Coffeehouse serves a variety of drinks, meals, and desserts ranging from 25-140Php. Among my favorites are: Fudge walnut brownies (I love the delectable chocolate gooey taste!); Hazelnut Praline which is a mildly sweet creamy ice-cold coffee shake served with just the right amount of caffeine; hot or cold Chocolate Raspberry (I prefer hot); Tasty Tuna Sandwich which stays true to its name; Tableya Cake, a generous serving of native chocolate goodness; and Italian Sausage Pasta, a hefty serving of delicious creamy pasta that’s good enough for two people.
What separates Cordillera Coffeehouse from other cafés is that the coffee being used here is truly native. Open daily from seven in the morning until seven in the evening, this place is a must-try for people who want to experience the Filipino culture. [more]
