Cafe Schwarzenberg...cool place to chill
I like to go to this cafe on cold, snowy nights not only because they serve, supposedly, the best hot chocolate in all of Vienna, but also because the 19th century atmosphere and snooty waiters make me feel like I'm a part of high society and not actually a starving artist! So, as I mentioned, they serve some of the best hot chocolate in Vienna. Their most famous hot chocolate concoction is probably the hot chocolate "old Viennese style" -- vanilla, cinnamon, and whipped cream. They've also created a hot chocolate with orange liqueur. But my personal favorite -- due to my fascination with the movie "Chocolat" -- is the hot chocolate with chilli powder. It starts smooth and ends with a kick to warm up your chilled bones. In addition to the hot drinks, they serve all kinds of Austrian pastries and dishes -- including the famous Kaiserschmarrn, which is a kind of mutilated pancake pile with powdered sugar and a beery sauce. Yum! Finally, you're Viennese coffee house experience can usually be topped off by enjoying one of their many entertainment acts for the evening -- poetry readings, instrumental and piano music, or exhibitions -- or by relaxing with a good book or one of their many newspapers. THAT is true Viennese! [more] |
