Benteng Vredeburg
Benteng Vredeburg is what the Indonesians would call this once was a pretty big Dutch fort. Located at the end of the busy street of Malioboro, although I lived in Yogyakarta for almost 5 years awhile ago, never once I ever entered Benteng Vredeburg whenever there wasn’t an event held there; so honestly, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea what the place really look like when it’s clean, without exhibition tents and such. Today, Benteng Vredeburg is mainly open as a museum and more known as Museum Benteng Yogykarta; but yes, events, festivals, exhibitions are often held here. Open daily but not on week-ends and Monday, the entrance fee was really cheap as long as I could remember (at least, as per 2003, I believe it was still around Rp. 1000,- to Rp. 1500,- depending on the events; which was about less than 50 cents).
