Los Baños, Alhama de Murcia
The baths are a Roman baths, located in the town of Alhama de Murcia. Opening hours are generally 10am until 1pm ish and then late afternoon, around 6pm until 8pm. You can also go on a Saturday morning, but the baths are closed on a Monday, which caught me out once. Entrance is free, and although the site is not huge, the kids liked it and it is very well done. You can see the excavations of the former "hot and Cold" bathing areas, and some of the 2000 year old baths, plus there is a history of the town and the thermal spa hotel that once stood here on diplays, along with exhibits and artefacts that were dug up on the site. I´d estimate we spent less than an hour here, including a sit in the garden by the fountains, but there is also a large park in the town with great play areas ( Parque Municipal La Cubana) and Alhama itself is pleasant enough to walk around. All in all we spent a nice afternoon, visiting the baths, the park and then having tapas in the cafe in the park in the sun. If your kids are used to theme parks and wild rides, they´d probably be bored, but if they are happy with the simple things in life, playing in the sun, then this is an ideal afternoon trip. [more] |
