By far my favourite London boozer, “The Chandos” is a no nonsense city pub located just off Trafalgar Square (next door to St Martin’s in the Field) which serves surprisingly reasonably priced beer and food in really pleasant surroundings.
Downstairs the main bar is divided into old fashioned wooden cubicles but the best kept secret of the place is that two staircases at either end of the pub lead up to the comfortable “Opera Room” on the first floor, where a second bar is laid out with sofas, armchairs and a fireplace.
“The Chandos” is a great place to rendez-vous with friends before or after a night out and is within easy reach of Leicester Square, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace etc.
The nearest tube stations are Embankment and Charing Cross. [more ]
