The Coal Hole
Another great London pub and well worth as visit as much for the exterior and interior as well as the beer and food is the “Coal Hole” on the Strand.
It is a riot of stone, glass and dark wood with impressive friezes, a large fireplace and hanging drapes.
It is quite a unique atmosphere and although it hints at great age it was actually decorated at the start of the 20th century, the first “fake”-type pub whose decor was supposed to be reminiscent of a bygone era of “merry inns of England”.
It is a great meeting spot before a night out at the theatre or a visit to Covent Garden nearby. [more ]
