Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
If you’re normally suspicious of any establishment that calls itself “Ye Olde” then this will be refreshing change. “Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese” pub on London’s Fleet Street is the genuine article, rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666, the interior retains all the gloomy charm of a bygone age and the cellar bar/restaurant below dates from the 13th century.
The interior of the pub is divided up into a series of small original rooms, with hard wooden seating and a cavernous fireplace and for a real trip back in time I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the capital.
The food is OK if unexceptional, the beer good and the pub is a favourite of local office workers so gets very busy at lunchtimes. [more ]
