Entry to the Manly Skiff Club is like a double-edged sword if you aren't fortunate enough to be a member. If you happen to live to close to the club, and remember that is as the bird flies or ship sails (so includes places like Mosman and beyond), then you will need to be signed in. However, people travelling from further a field will have no problems. Once in, the place inside is nothing to write home about, But drink prices and the view from the deck at the back are what makes this place special. The view is better than from the Wharf Bar, and there are far fewer annoying 18-year-olds falling all over the shop. The Skiff Club is one of my favourite places to relax in the afternoon sun with a glass of wine - when I'm allowed in!! [more] |

Knock twice at the Manly Skiff club
Manly is a haven for tourists and day-trippers enjoying the beach, bars and restaurants around the place. If you're looking for a drink or a meal on the harbor away from the crowds check out the little toured Skiff Club. Located on the wharf side of Manly, toward little Manly the club backs onto the harbor. The door is usually always closed which almost tricked us into leaving. To gain entry, press the door bell and someone will show you where to sign in. Inside we found a calm old club, simply decorated, with older couples dining cheaply on the wharf or inside under harsh lighting. The tables were all occupied but we sat happily on the edge of the wharf with our legs dangling over the side quietly hoping not to lose a shoe. Drinks are average prices and discount meals of $9.95 are offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays which is great for a meal on the waterfront. [more] |
