The Brazen Head - good music and good fun
We headed to the Brazen Head, reportedly Dublin's oldest pub, on a Friday night and we found it packed. There are a number of rooms that are connected by hallways as well as a patio area. Even though it was chilly outside, the patio was full also In one of the rooms, there was live Irish music. 4 musicians, who seemed to be a regular group there, entertained the crowd for nearly the entire evening. It was quite loud with all the people and the music, but it was a great time. The drinks prices are a bit high, but it's about standard for a European capital city. There are American dollar bills behind one of the bars with people's names on them; I'm not sure what the significance is, but if I'd had a dollar, I'd've passed it along! There's great atmosphere and mix of tourists and locals. A great place to visit! [more] |

Ireland's oldest pub
Ale and gravy never smelled so good - but that's probably because The Brazen Head claims to have been serving it for years, since 1198 in fact. The single-storey exterior, nestled on Bridge Street between modern high rise buildings, looks authentic enough. However, there have been changes. The most recent of which seems to have been the half-uncovered, half-covered smoking area - where the orange glow from metal heaters bake the age-old cobblestones. Inside the pub is quite quaint, with wooden decor, ceiling to floor, and little, thick rectangular Victorian shop style windows. The charm is warm and the food smells like a hearty feed. [more] |

The Brazen Head
We visited the Brazen Head in search of some Irish history and something to eat. We were not disappointed at all. This pub is the oldest pub in Dublin and it seems that it manages to keep the old Irish atmosphere alive. The staff is very friendly and professional. The food is delicious. Maybe it could be considered a little bit expensive, but it’s worth it. My boyfriend and I had a great time there and made some new friends that were regulars of the pub. They told us that it was a family tradition to visit that pub every Friday. So, make sure you don’t miss the Brazen Head. [more] |
