South Africa - Cango Caves
About 30 Km north of Oudtshoorn, in the heart of the Little Karoo – you will find the majestic Cango Caves, some of the largest in all Africa. The drive up there across the mountains is quite scenic – and the inside major cave-room sometimes holds orchestra concerts given its excellent acoustics and huge size. You can take the easy or the adventure tour – in which case you will squeeze into narrow passages and get all muddy for a couple of hours. On the way back to Oudtshoorn - the capital of ostridges, you will also find farms with large crocodiles and can pet cheetahs reproducing in captivity, when near their caretaker. [more] |

Cango Caves, Oudtshoorn, South Africa
This otherwordly place will leave you either mesmerised or spooked. Hidden under the Little Karoo near Oudtshoorn, the Cango Caves is one of South Africa's hidden treasures - a vast network of underground caves, featuring some truly impressive rock formations. When you get there you'll be offered a choice between a standard (60 min) and adventure tour (90 min). You simply must do the adventure tour... But you need to be fit, and not claustrophobic. Some challenges include Jacob's Ladder (about 200 steps) and a little tunnel called the Devil's Chimney... it is frightening to squeeze through there. It is not an expensive place, with prices ranging from less than 5 Euros for adults and around 2 Euros for children. [more] |
