While in Liverpool, we opted to dine at a nice, modernly designed restaurant for an early lunch known as "60 Hope Street." We both opted for a three-course meal: for me, goat cheese fritters with tomato dressing as an appetizer, followed by fish and chips and English trifle for dessert. For my girlfriend, pan-fried fishcake with parsley sauce as an appetizer, an omelette with a watercress and apple salad, and chocolate burnt cream for dessert. To be honest, I think 60 Hope Street is way over-hyped. The restaurant looks nice, and they serve decent food, but for the level of quality that you get the prices are pretty high, and I would expect the service to be a lot better. A lot of the waiters didn't seem to know what they were doing, and as the dinner hour got busier the whole place kind of turned into a circus. Our waiter seemed to be the head clown, making some borderline inappropriate comments to some of the girls at our table. We asked for a different server, but the second one we got wasn't much better - he kept his mouth shut, but forgot to bring out our food, and then when he did bring something out it was someone else's order. The food is good, but I'm not sure I'll ever go back there, because there are plenty of better restaurants in Liverpool where you can be treated with respect for less money and less chaos. [more] |
