Rettersted: Place of Execution
Don’t underestimate this place. It looks so big in the map, but actually not that big. When we searched for it, we thought that the Danish government was making fun of us or the tourists by putting it in the map without the exact spot. We passed it three times and in the end we just realized it. My Danish friend told me, Rettersted means city or city hall. Maybe in the past century, they used the city hall to execute the criminals. It is easier to find it if you drive from Ellum Mark, and then you’ll see the sign of Rettersted. There is a small path next to the sign, then go inside the bush, in the left side you’ll see a pile of land with stairs. It is a little shivery to me to think about what happened at that time. There is an information board in front of the stairs, but it is in Danish. I recommend you to go there with some friends, not by yourself. [more] |
