Make Sure You’re Fit
Just to give you an idea of how our itinerary looked like, it simply went like this: we left the Cubao terminal at about 1:30 in the morning and arrived in Baguio at past 7:30. After that, we had our breakfast at Jollibee near Session road, and boarded a taxi to Grotto which was our first destination. We stayed there for a little while to buy souvenirs before we boarded another cab to the Strawberry farm. Then, we proceeded to Good Shepherd and ate lunch at Pizza Hut in SM. Our last destination was the PMA (Philippine Maritime Academy). Since the day was enjoyably exhausting, we went for a coffee break at SM again. While sipping a cup of coffee we remembered one place which a Baguio tourist must not forget—the Burnham Park. But that idea was erased by a shower of rain. So at around seven in the evening, we hailed a cab to the bus terminal. The bus left at 8:30 p.m. yet so we were early for the “going-home” trip. Simply put, be in good shape if you are going to Baguio especially if it’s only a whole day trip. That way, you’ll be able to enjoy every minute of it. [more] |

Chartering a Cab
Of course, there’s no better way of going around an unfamiliar city than in a private car to ensure safety. Having convenience aside, however, chartering a cab is the best alternative for a private car. In the absence of a personal vehicle, one may hire or charter a cab in Baguio for a meager amount of 200.00Php for the first two hours. Amount of rate on the succeeding hours would depend on how well you negotiate with the driver. This set-up is especially advantageous to those who do not know their way around Baguio. Don’t worry about the drivers; they can be trusted and give back your change for the fare. (One warning: getting a cab in Baguio may be difficult during the peak season which is summer.) [more] |

Be Alert, Awake, Alive, Enthusiastic!
As we only have Saturday and Sunday for our day off, we decided to leave after office hours on Friday. However, before the departure date, inquiries on the schedule and fares of the buses going to Baguio were made beforehand. Since Victory Liner seemed to be the best choice, fate found us aboard one of its buses 1:30 in the morning of Saturday. After seven hours of travel (six hours of which was spent in deep slumber), we were already in Jollibee Baguio having breakfast, planning about the places we’d be visiting, and computing the hours we’d be spending on each aimed place. My tip here is to be awake and alert about your designated travel time for each destination and be alive and enthusiastic about the places you’ll explore. [more] |

Baguio Part 2: A Blast!
Dreaming for that summer getaway but a bit short on cash and time? No need to worry. A vacation needs not be that expensive and long in duration. One only has to have guts and a carefully planned itinerary to have an instant short vacation. A bit doubtful? Let me share with you a few travel tips that I’ve just acquired from a recently concluded visit to Baguio with a few friends. The trip lasted for only a day, but believe it or not, we were able to visit Good Shepherd, the Grotto, Strawberry Farm, PMA, and was even able to have lunch and a short coffee break at SM. Cash spent, on the other side, amounted to an average of 2,000.00Php each per person inclusive of “pasalubongs” and souvenirs. How did we do it? Well since I’m not really a selfish person, let me share with you how. [more] |

A true tourist mall in a tourist city
In this mall long country, SM chain of malls is the national equivalent of the US’ Walmart. However, SM City Baguio is altogether a different place. Although you can see the generic features of the usual Filipino mall, the architecture of the place is far different from the usual. If you like strolling in the urban landscape, you will find the mall quite a challenge to get to – you have to walk up a difficult slope but once you get there you’d be surprised at the variance that this mall brings. You can find locally produced wares inside and outside the mall, and while this is the place for consumerist shops, the viewpoint facing the residential villages-in-cliffs turns into a display of lights in the evening. SM Baguio is highly commercial place which does not bode well for a mountain traveler but a great place for shopping nonetheless. [more] |
