Coffee on the Rhine in Benrath
Benrath is an unassuming, little town about 15 mins outside of Düsseldorf if you take the efficient German bahn. It is known for its palaces and gardens and on a rainy day, as it was when I got there, it looks lusher and greener and the wooded paths are rather scenic. At the river shore, I caught a ferry for a quick ride down the Rhine – it seemed to be the right thing to do in the rain since one could order hot coffee and sandwiches in the warm ferry restaurant while bobbing about on the brown river. The boat makes a few halts down the river and one can either wait to catch it on its way back, or just hop a tram. [more] |
