St. Matthias Church

 stars
St. Matthias Church is located I. Szentháromság tér 2 (take M2 to Moszkva tér and then bus number 16).

Another sight you cannot miss when you visit Castle Hill. However when I have last been for a visit, I was surprised to see you had to pay admission, as a few years ago the entrance was free. The church was named after King Matthias Corvinus and it was a place of a few coronations as well as both of Matthiaus's weddings. During the Turks occupation the church was used as mosque and was stripped of most of its treasures. In 19th century the church was restored and even some new Gothic elements were uncovered. Once inside you can also go and see the replicas of the coronation crown and jewels.

Opening hours are weekdays from 9:00am until 5:00pm; Sat from 9:00am until 5:00pm and Sun from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. Price of admission is 650HUF. [more]
