“Pares” (pa-res) or combo (combination) meals are very popular around the Philippines. In Bulacan, there is a specific eatery that serves “Pares” quite as wonderful as the highly expensive restaurants in the city: Taps-Yummy. This newly opened place found along Cagayan Valley Road in Sta. Rita, Guiguinto, Bulacan is the perfect destination for those who want to try a famous local food called “tapsilog.” At a little over $1 per plate, you will get tender, flavorful beef with a sizzling cup of “sinangag” (fried rice,) a bowl of soup, and a piece of nicely cooked, sunny-side-up egg. Take your meal with a tall glass of “Gulaman and Sago” to cap it off on a high note. That drink is also popular on the Philippine streets. It’s sweet cold drink that has gelatin in it. If you are not very much into “tapsilog,” try “Lechon Kawali.” It is a serving of pork meat in a sweet sauce—a very good alternative! [more] |
