Pender Lea Chalets, Jindabyne

5.0 stars

BYO salt and pepper

There are no shops within walking distance, so if you are planning to eat at the chalets, make sure to bring everything you need, including salt, pepper, oil and spices. We did not think to buy these, so we ate really plain food all week. There was a tiny bit of salt, probably left by a previous guest, but nothing else. On the bright side, after returning to Sydney, it was really nice to have some salad with dressing on it!

There was a dryer and a washing machine in the cottage, but after sorting our laundry, we found out that the chalets do not supply laundry detergent. We were lucky that the lady at reception offered to give us some of her detergent, otherwise we would have had to drive to town. [more ]

The chalet

We booked a chalet advertised to sleep nine people. My first impression of it was that it was massive. It had two bedrooms, a loft, three bathrooms, one with a (red!) spa bath and sauna, and fully equipped kitchen with every possible household appliance you might need. It was attached to another chalet, where a group of guys were staying, so we found out that the sound proofing was not great. Fortunately, our neighbours weren’t too bad and there was nothing else to break the silence apart from birds and rain. There was floor heating and an open fire place, which we never used, keeping it safe for our toddler. [more ]

Surrounding area

Pender Lea Chalets are half way between Jindabyne and Thredbo. The Skitube to Perisher Blue is 5 min away by car. This is a perfect place for a relaxing holiday, but there is not much happening in the immediate proximity to the chalets. Just around the corner, there are horse riding tracks. A little bit further down the road is the Crackenback Farm and Cottage, known for its restaurant and its maze. We wanted to have dinner at the restaurant, but it was only open Friday to Sunday and we were leaving before the weekend. The maze was also closed, but I only realised that after I put my $2 coin in, so I went in under the railings anyway. I got lost and I had to ask for help to find my way out. [more ]
