Italian goes wild
There is no short order of fantastic restaurants in Anchorage. I'd wager that we have some of the best selections of places to eat per capita in the entire United States. Orso is another in a chain of fine-dining, downtown restaurants. Their slogan is "An everyday celebration of fresh Alaska ingredients" and they're not kidding! Get used to the freshest salmon, halibut and crab you've ever had paired with ingredients that bring out the best flavors of the ocean....because that's what Alaskan chefs do best! Just the other day I had a luscious cashew crusted halibut with a golden raisin-caper sauce. Orso, meaning "bear" in Italian, is also known for their selection of exciting Alaska-Italia dishes that roll off your tongue like a creamy alfredo sauce. Things like "Seafood Gemelli -- with red king crab, Alaska scallops, petite Manila clams, prawns, and Alaska salmon, halibut and garlic cream." Man! That's a juicy mouthful! Orso also has a chic bar where they've come up with some excellent cocktail and munchie selections known as "Bear Bites". Every weekday from 4-6pm is like a happy hour in the bar -- with cocktails (I recommend the Pomerama pomegranate martini), wine and beer (from the next door Brewhouse) going for ridiculously low prices -- and upscale munchies, like fried ravioli and tenderloin tips, barely leaving a dent in your bank account.
