Waterloo Kiln
There's a small subvillage in Rotherham called Swinton that we passed through during our last visit to Yorkshire, where we saw one of the most unique-looking buildings in the far distance as we drove by, which we later discovered that it went by the name of the Waterloo Kiln, and was used as a pottery in the 18th century, which I thought was quite ironic, almost comedic, really, because the building itself looks like an old-fashioned vase or bottle, roundly shaped and large at the bottom and becoming much smaller towards the top, where it looked like it was flat at the top, perhaps with an open chimney, since this building was used for pottery making. Should we have the time to, we plan to visit the Waterloo Kiln in November -- perhaps we'll see a fellow Cosmotourist or two there! [more] |
