A toy store that is so much more
F.A.O. Schwarz is more a tourist attraction than a place for shopping. Full of great new, as well as old and collectible, toys, the store is a real treat for both kids and adults. From action figures and dolls to science kits and construction sets, this place has it all. Aside from the many rows of toys, there are lots of interactive exhibits here: palaces you can walk into, a giant keyboard you play with your feet (yes, that’s the same one featured in the movie BIG), and even giant stuffed animals (think 7-foot tall elephants and giraffes). Toys, toys, and some more toys! That's the mantra of this upscale toy retailer that boasts a 3-tiered display of toys. As you enter, you're greeted by a clock tower spitting out "Welcome to Our World of Toys." It's regarded as a popular tourist destination in NYC, located on the world-famous 5th Avenue. There are stores all through the US, but the biggest and best is in the Big Apple. It's a great place for kids to spend some time and feel like they're in their very own fun palace. You might have seen the store in Tom Hank's movie, Big with the sprawled out floor piano. Sounds strange, but you really could spend hours in the place. [more] |

Who does not know the scene from the film “Big” where Tom Hanks meets the owner of the toy store playing on the giant piano? Tom Hanks is a kid in an adult’s body and this is exactly what you feel like entering the toy store on Fifth Avenue. They have everything: soft toys, cars, society games, video games… You can try out almost everything and every 30 minutes there’s a show where two men are jumping on the piano playing the massive piano as if it was an ordinary piano. We spent three hours in the store and had so much fun. I wouldn’t take my kids there though. It would be hard to make them want to go back home. [more] |
