Unique Bridge & Tunnel

 stars
The Cape Creek Bridge on Highway 101 meets with the Cape Creek Tunnel on its south end. The Keeper's House tour guide at Heceta Head told us that this stretch of highway has been called the "most expensive mile on the Oregon Coast" due the cost of constructing both the tunnel and the bridge. Driving over the bridge and then through the tunnel was a bit of a unique experience.

The bridge itself is similar to some of the other bridges in this section of Highway 101 in its arched design. Those more interested in bridge construction say that this particular bridge has the most beautiful and unique arch design of all of McCullough's bridges. There is a beautiful view from the bridge and the drive itself through the forested hills along the coast is gorgeous.

The bridge can be found at milepost 178.4 between Heceta Head Lighthouse State Park and the Sea Lion Caves. [more]
