The Stinking Rose
Garlic, garlic, garlic, and more garlic. This is (naturally) another locale in the Italian North Beach district of San Francisco and the smell of garlic will lead you straight to the doors of The Stinking Rose. While the Italian and other food is superb, you have to come here for the less-than-obvious culinary concoctions involving garlic (the eponymous rose). We had garlic martinis here, which were surprisingly delicious (vodka and garlic being two of my favorite things in the world, it worked for me). We also had to try the garlic ice cream, which you don't think will work at all until you eat the first spoonful. If you're a garlic-ophile, you'll be in heaven. And if you're not a fan of the bulb, you'll be quickly made a convert at this California institution. It has an outpost in Beverly Hills that is much more sleek and luxe, however the home will always be on Columbus Avenue in NorCal. [more] |
