Le Grandeur Hotel Balikpapan
Last year when we visited Balikpapan again (Balikpapan is a city in East Borneo, Indonesia); we stayed for a couple of nights at Le Grandeur hotel in Balikpapan Permai, Jalan Jendral Sudirman area. I don’t know since when they changed the name to Le Grandeur, but previously, this hotel was known as Dusit Balikpapan; one of the best and most expensive hotels in Balikpapan a couple years back. The inside of the hotel is elegant though from the outside some parts of the hotel are definitely needed to be renovated or at least scrubbed and repainted. Facing the Balikpapan Sea, Le Grandeur hotel has access to the beach and they also have volley ball field for the guests. The service is great, the room is not too bad, but I don’t like the system where you need to slide your card to be able to use the lift though it is for security and convenient reasons to the hotel’ guests, but I hardly like this kind of system because sometimes I forgot to bring my card and I had to call my husband to get me downstairs he-he. Almost at every corner you will see security camera. Just as you enter the main lobby, across the receptionist table would be a waiting lounge and across the waiting lounge would be bar area. If I am not mistaken next to the receptionist table, there was also bar or restaurant area (sorry, don’t remember well). At the waiting lounge they provide only 1 telephone available where guests can call their rooms; and before you enter the 2 lifts not too far from the receptionist’ desk, there is a small jewelry vendor, very pricey though. If you go to Balikpapan and need a fancy place to stay, Le Grandeur would be a good choice even though I have to say somehow I feel when it was still Dusit Balikpapan the condition of the hotel was better than what Le Grandeur is today.
