Slumming it, or I should have found a better place for lunch…
So here’s the thing about Nice; or maybe it’s more of a statement about me and personal indecision when it comes to lunch. I found it really hard to find a place to eat, while there. There were lots of “decent” places but also at a very lofty price… When trying to find something in the ‘I’m spending many months in Europe’ backpacker price range it can be a little trying at best, especially if you want to avoid the American fast food places. The short of it so you don’t end up walking for hours, if you find some place that looks good just go eat there - especially if you're like me who can't always get back to the place that looked really good - you know it was either three blocks back and one to the left... or was that the right, I'm sure you get the picture. I ended up trying to eat at a place called Le Crystal that looked interesting from the outside… and interesting is an interesting choice of words. It was one of those places where you would expect to find a character similar to Henry Miller or Charles Bukowski drunk at the bar; part of me wanted to turn around as I walked in. At that point the promise of a three Euro sandwich with a glass of beer was far too alluring for me. I should have known it was to good to be true. They had beer but were out of sandwiches. After several comically tiny beers at a Euro a piece I had had enough to move on. The highlight of this pink neon lit bar as crazy and mildly scuzzy as this place was, is that the young server was really gracious and very patient with my poor attempts at French. [more] |
