Relaxing in Rudas baths
Budapest is famous for its spa baths, so to come here without taking a trip to one of these legendary pools would have been a waste. Having heard that the most famous baths - those at the Gellert Hotel, could be a little daunting, we took the number 7 bus to the Rudas baths instead. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, and getting into the baths itself is a little complicated - you need to keep hold of a plastic tag that they give you, decide on the spot whether you want a massage or not (I didn't, but later wished I'd tried one), and then head for the changing rooms. This was a 'mixed' bathing day (they have single sex bathing days two) so a swimsuit was required, luckily I had mine! I had heard that you are free to walk round 'as nature intended' on single sex days but I can't verify this... There are steps down to lovely warm waters in the main pool, with several other smaller pools of varying temperatures surrounding it.
