TSUM Department Store
TSUM (sounds like Zoom) is the biggest department store in Kyrgyzstan, and it’s set up like a bazaar inside a building. The first floor is electronics—get your digital photos printed within an hour for great prices. The second floor is clothing and shoes, the third is appliances, CDs and DVDs. Check out the music and movies—for only 250 som ($5) you can buy newly-released all-region DVDs. Just don’t forget to ask to preview the disc to make sure it’s in English. (I made that mistake once or twice, and making a return was not a big deal). You can also buy cheap MP3 compilations of your favorite artists. The fourth floor of Tsum is souvenirs. If you’re in a rush and not on a budget, this is a fine place to buy them. However, you can get the exact same products for half as much at the Osh Bazaar across the city, if you don’t mind navigating a confusing maze of stalls to find them! Just don't try to find Kyrgyz souvenir T-shirts at the Bazaar--I could only find those at Tsum. [more] |
