Getting to Luxor by Train
There are several ways to get to Luxor from Cairo. In my opinion, the most efficient is the overnight train from Cairo direct to Luxor. The train leaves from Giza station around 10.30pm and arrives in Luxor around 6am. The accommodation consists of private bunk-bedded cabins for two people, each with its own sink basin and small closet. The train is also equipped with a dining car, although breakfast is served in your cabin. There are clean, shared toilets between each train car. The whole experience proved to be easy and comfortable. I would recommend ear plugs if you are a light sleeper, as some passengers are very early risers! We used our ear plugs and slept well and soundly. We woke feeling refreshed and ready for an early morning trip to the Valley of the Kings. The prices for this journey are quite reasonable (we paid $130 for both passengers on a round trip ticket) if booked in advance over the internet, but you'll probably get a better deal if you book after arriving in Cairo. I would recommend this option to anyone who wants to make the most of both their time and their money while traveling between Cairo and Luxor.
