Da Dong Restaurant in Singapore
Da Dong Restaurant (a.k.a. Tai Tong) has been around for quite some time in Singapore’s Chinatown. It is located at 39 Smith Street. The restaurant has old-school architecture with high ceilings and window shutters. It is close to the busy streets so you can get a good view of passersby if you sit at the outside tables. Da Dong has dim sum/yum cha on the weekends and holidays, but I cannot speak to its quality as I dined there for lunch during a weekday. I thoroughly enjoyed a fresh coconut juice, special fried rice, and BBQ pork. Now I don’t typically eat pork at all, but I was told that this was a good house dish to try. I found the service to be friendly and efficient. The manager even chatted with me briefly. I was disappointed with the expensive bill (over 25 Singapore dollars), as I knew there were much cheaper places to dine, but oh well.
