I stayed in a 8 Bed Mixed Dorm in the HI-Sukhumvit Hostel for
7.22 Euro per night. The rooms and bathrooms were kept clean but as in most hostels the beds were pretty hard.
It is not in central Bangkok but very near to a bus station and the Skytrain. A 150BHT ride from the international airport stops nearby or you can pay around 250BHT for a taxi. There are lots of restaurants, shops, food stalls and a 7/11 in the area.
The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English.
Check out the balcony on the roof for a nice view of Bangkok.
There was a fridge downstairs to keep your drinks or otherwise 7/11 is just around the corner. [more ]

HI Bangkok Centre
I stayed at this hostel a couple of weeks ago and would be happy to recommend it.
Dorms and private rooms are available in this massive place and breakfast is included in the bed/room rate.
I found this to be nice and central. Right near the airport bus stop, Promphong BTS Skytrain and the MRT subway.
It's a bit clinical and impersonal but it is clean and functional. There is also a good internet cafe right underneath. [more ]
