Jan Hus monument

Jan Hus monument is located at Staré Město (Prague 1, take Metro to Staroměstská/Náměstí Republiky).

Jan Hus was one of the most prominent figures in the Czech history. He was forced to leave Prague as he was accused of spreading doctrines that were not in line with the church. Then in 1415. he faced the members of Council of Constance and tried to defend his doctrine. However he was found a heretic and burned at the stake. His doctrine was a call for reform as he felt the church was corrupted and the reform was needed to live in accordance with the gospels. The monument was unveiled in 1915. to mark the 500th anniversary of Hus' death. The monument was designed by Ladislaus Šaloun in Art Nouveau style. [more ]
