La Candalaria - great nightlife
On arriving in Bogota we took our guidebook's advice and headed for Platypus Hostel, which was listed as being the best hostel in South America. I wouldn't go that far - the bedrooms were cramped and the bathrooms far from perfect, but the atmosphere was good and the owner helpful. The hostel is located in La Candalaria (up a narrow sidestreet with another hostel next door - be careful at night as thieves target backpackers here) and we found this to be a great, lively area of the city - lovely colonial architecture, interesting museums and lively, laid back nightlife. For those with cash in their pockets and a desire to pose, apparently the Zona Rose is the area to party in, but we were much more at home here in boho La Candalaria. [more] |
